Ruby B. Hernandez is a writer/director and teacher based out of South Florida. She received her undergraduate Film Studies degree from Wesleyan University and also studied Egyptian and New Arab Cinema at the American University in Cairo.
Ruby’s love of cinema starts with the script. Her feature script for Starry Nights was adapted into an award-winning short film, and a TV pilot (The Garden) was a 2022 semi-finalist at the Austin Film Festival. She has also been hired to work on contract screenplays as well.
Ruby's previous narrative shorts have explored loss and memory and her documentary short Canaries in the Field questioned the legal system of agricultural migrant labor in the United States. In both her documentary and narrative work, Ruby explores themes of family, grief, immigration, and multiethnic identity.
Ruby is passionate about public education and has worked in a public high school for nearly a decade. She is currently the director of Film & Media Studies at A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida.
